Palampur (Himachal Pradesh), Nov 11

Authorities in Himachal Pradesh Wednesday resumed a search for Ukrainian paraglider Igor, who went missing here in the Kangra valley six days ago, police said.

"This (Wednesday) morning the search operation for Ukrainian paraglider Igor again started in hills overlooking Palampur. A special helicopter hired by his family has also been deployed to know his whereabouts," Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rakesh Singh told IANS.

Igor, 48, took off from Billing, near here, for Bir and lost his way due to strong winds and went missing Nov 5.

"The helicopter also carried out some sorties for the first time yesterday (Tuesday) but could not get any clues about his whereabouts due to bad weather. Special rescue teams have also been despatched to locate him in the high mountains," he said.

Earlier, Russian paraglider Alexey Ashurov went missing while practising here Oct 23. He is still untraceable.

Bir-Billing, about 300 km from state capital Shimla, is considered one of the finest aero sports sites in the world.
