New Delhi, Nov 12

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) Thursday reiterated that oil marketing companies had to ensure gasoline was blended with 5 percent ethanol.

"The cabinet decided to reiterate its earlier decision. We want to make sure that oil marketing companies are implementing it,” Home Minister P. Chidambaram told reporters here after the meeting.

He said oil marketing companies had brought up some difficulties, but the cabinet stuck to its earlier decision.

"There is enough ethanol in the country," asserted Chidambaram.

The CCEA has also decided to set up a new inter-ministerial panel to sort out any "supply dislocation".

Chidambaram said a team of officials from the ministries of food and public distribution, non-renewable energy resources and petroleum and natural gas would be formed “so that there is no supply dislocation”.
