Punjab aims to curb spurious drugs, to reward informers

Chandigarh, Nov 17

In a bid to curb sale of spurious drugs in Punjab, the state government has announced reward for all those providing information.

The Punjab government will follow the special plan of the central government in an effort to curb circulation of spurious drugs, an official said here Tuesday.

According to the plan, suitable reward will be given to those who provide information about people who indulge in selling, buying and supplying of spurious drugs, cosmetics and medical devices in the state.

"Identity of the informer would be kept secret and he will get 20 percent of the cost of the impounded material or maximum up to Rs.25 lakh," said an official spokesman of the state government.

"Twenty-five percent of the reward money would be given at the time of filing charge sheet in the court and next 25 percent would be given on winning the case. Remaining amount will be given when the case is disposed of."

All the civil surgeons of Punjab would work as nodal officers under this scheme.
