London, Nov 18
Swindon, which has Britain's highest broadband usage, announced plans to become the country's first wi-fi town.
The entire town, situated around 130 km from London, will be covered by wireless connectivity by April next year and the population of 186,000 will have free internet access.
Every Swindon resident will receive free wireless access for a limited period each day.
The one million pound project is a partnership between town authorities and two private companies, which hope to recoup their investment by offering paid-for upgrades to businesses and heavy users, The Times newspaper reported Wednesday.
