Five women pickpockets targeting passengers on the Delhi Metro were arrested Saturday by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.

The women's intelligence wing of the CISF arrested the five women from the Kashmiri Gate Metro station. They were identified as Luxmi, Sheela, Bareli, Rakhi and Lalita, all from Maharashtra

The five women were later handed over to the Delhi Police. Officials were also on the lookout for four other women of the gang.

"This is a gang of around nine women, of which only five were caught. Our women's intelligence wing observed something amiss about them and after keeping a close eye on them, it became clear these women were pickpockets," said a CISF officer.

According to the officer, the gang members used to carry children along with them. After boarding the metro, they would identify their target and gather around them.

"The child would tease the target by pulling at his or her clothes. The passenger used to think that child was playing pranks and would not mind. Meanwhile, a gang member would lay their hands on the valuables and then get off at the next station," the officer added.
