Three people travelling in the oficial car of an inspector general of police were injured when the vehicle, being driven by the officer's son, rammed into an electricity pole near Goa's Vasco town, police said.

After not responding to phone calls from the media for nearly an hour, the officer, K.D. Singh, confirmed to IANS late Saturday that the accident had occurred and that his son Siddharth was involved.

"Yes, the accident has happened. I can only say that," Singh said, refusing to comment further on the issue because of his son's involvement.

"It will not be right of me to speak on the issue because my son is involved. You speak to the investigating officer. He will tell you about the investigations," Singh said.

The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Jivba Dalvi's mobile phone was switched off all Saturday afternoon.

Neither the police spokesman nor the chief secretary were available for comment despite repeated attempts by IANS to contact them.

Police sources, however, said that a case has been registered against "unknown" persons at the Vasco police station.
