BCCI announces cash awards for Indian cricket team

The players of the victorious Indian cricket team will be awarded Rs.25 lakh (Rs.2.5 million) each for 2-0 series win against Sri Lanka and becoming the No.1 Test team in the world, cricket board said Sunday.

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) also said that the support staff, including coach Gary Kirsten, will get Rs.10 lakh (Rs.1 million) each.

India won the three-match series 2-0 against Sri Lanka here at the Brabourne Stadium, Sunday.

India won the match by an innings and 24 runs. It was India's second consecutive innings win, having won the second Test in Kanpur by an innings and 144 runs after the first Test in Ahmedabad ended in a draw.

The series win fetched India five points and they will end 2009 as the No.1 Test side in International Cricket Council's (ICC) rankings.
