Construction and engineering major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has bagged a contract worth Rs.844 crore from the state-run Nuclear Power Corp of India Ltd (NPCIL), the company said Tuesday.

As per the contract, L&T will build a reactor at the Kakrapar atomic power project of NPCIL at Tapi in Gujarat

Besides building the reactor building and auxiliary buildings, L&T will also set up a waste management mechanism and a heavy water upgrading plant at the site, the company said in a statement.

The project is expected to be completed in 49 months.

"This is the country's first 700 MW pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) plant being indigenously developed by NPCIL," L&T said.
