An officer of a government-run milk production plant here was suspended while the services of two private labour contractors were scrapped Friday, a day after at least seven child labourers, all aged below 14 years, were found handling heavy machinery at the plant, officials said.

The West Bengal government has entered into an MoU with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and the Burn Standard Company Ltd (BSCL) to set up a railway wagon and component factory in East Midnapore's Jellingham, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Friday. SAIL will invest Rs.21,000 crore in various projects in the state.

A 51-year-old campaign officer working with the union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his house Friday afternoon, police said adding that Jagjit Singh Bindra was reportedly depressed over "some official problems".
