India celebrates Makar Sankranti
Allahabad/Varanasi / Haridwar, January 14 (ANI): Thousands of Hindu devotees in northern India took a holy dip in the River Ganges today, to mark the festival of Makar Sankranti. Devotees in Allahabad were seen performing various rituals along the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers, also known as the sangam , in the early hours of the morning. Similar scenes of ritualistic bathing were witnessed in Varanasi. In the holy Himalayan town of Haridwar too, the devotees braved chilly conditions to bathe in the icy waters of the river.
