Kaal Sarp Dosh types and its effects

'Kaal' means time, 'Sarp' means snake, and 'Dosh' means harmful effects. Kaal sarp dosh is said to affect those who killed a snake in their past lives or whose ancestors are displeased. Kaal Sarp Dosh is a unique dosh that comes with the astrological placement of all planets within the axis of Rahu and Ketu in the Kundli. The effects of this dosh will be more visible during Rahu and Ketu Mahadashas. It is also called 'Kaal Sarp Yog' (KSY) because of its high potential for success - Abraham Lincoln, Harry S. Truman, Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Sachin Tendulkar, Dirubai Ambani are examples.

Ancient astrology texts or vedic literature makes no mention of Kaal sarp dosh. Therefore, it only seemed logical for the astrologers to bring in this coinage to reinforce that any planet hemmed between two malefics, cannot remain benefic; hence the argument that Rahu and Ketu, the shadow planets, being malefic in nature would deprive the planets of its powers, if they are placed between them- the concept deep-rooted in Maharshi Parashara's Paapkartari. Here, we should note that Kaal sarp dosh is about depriving of the beneficence of other planets because of both Rahu and Ketu. Other Sarpa doshas, like the Sarp Yog, which happens when the malefic planets occupy the kendras, or Sarpashapa yog, which is brought about by the influence of Rahu on the fifth house/ santhanabhaava in a horoscope are different.
