Ford rules the Indian road with its six cars. Freestyle is the facelifted version of Ford’s successful hatchback Figo. It comes in the cross hatch back segment that competes with, Etios Cross, Avventura Cross, WR-V , Polo Cross, i20 Active and Nexon. Ford calls it as the India’s first CUV (compact utility vehicle). It comes in total eight variants, four each in petrol and diesel. Ambient is the base model both in petrol and diesel. It follows Trend, Titanium and Titanium Plus. The last variant is the top variant that offers six airbags.
A facelifted version highlights lot of changes in its appearance. It got all the cross hatchback typical styling elements. It looks stylish with the roof rail. The cladding around the lower portion of the body makes it spotty. It has the smoke effect headlight and angular C-shaped fog lamps enclosure .Freestyle has a wheel base of 2490mm and its bigger wheel arches give a stylish look. The bonnet is more pronounced that flows to a sharper cut grille. The scuff plates both in the front and back and the sticker around the body add to its style. The spotty mesh for the grille and the contrast color on the side mirror give it an elegant look. Let us have a look into the exterior features. Length : 3954mm, Width : 1737 mm, and Height : 1570 mm. Both the petrol and diesel models have 190mm ground clearance and 15” alloy that enhance the confidence of driving while off-roading.
Freestyle comes in six colors, white gold metal, Smokey grey, Oxford White, Moon dust silver, Canyon- ridge and Absolute Black.
The boot remains unchanged from the Figo and it looks substantial. The interior diesn’t have any surprise, it looks similar to the Figo. There are some changes especially that comes in the color scheme. The old beige color is completely replaced by the lovely chocolate brown. The quality of plastic used in the interior is of good standard. The central console, the three spoke steering wheel and the steering mounted controls are adapted from the Eco sport. The central console consists of lot of space that can carry bottles and cup. It has the Push button start and the touchscreen infotainment that too are same as we seen in Eco sport. The illuminated USB portal gives a cool look. The well finished gear lever with shift lock adds the safety. The 6.5” touchscreen contain both Android auto and Apple car play. You get a comprehensive voice command and emergency assist feature.
Engine & Performance
The Freestyle Petrol has a 1.2 litre 3- cylinder engine. It delivers 96 PS power and 120Nm of torque. It takes only 13 seconds to reach 0 to 100. Paired to a new Getrag- sourced 5 speed manual gear box, it’s quite a hoot to drive. The petrol engine is very silent compared with the diesel engine.
The Freestyle Diesel has 1.5 litre, TDCI engine that releases 100 PS of power and 215Nm touque.
Freestyle offers dual airbag, parking sensors, ABS,EBD, front power windows and electronic power steering across all variants. From the Titanium variant we have, Push button ignition, Auto climatic control, ESP, Hill hold assist, Traction control, Power fold ORVM, Rear Defogger. The top variant offers, Side Airbags, Curtain Airbag, Synchronized 3 touchscreen and rain sensing wipers.
Both petrol and diesel have 257 L boot and it is adapted from the old Figo. Overall Ford Freestyle is a compact family vehicle, but it lacks the automatic transmission. It is a negative side as Indian vehicle industry is now going ahead with automatic vehicles.
