The Nissan Qashqai is a next generation SUV that is set to make its way to the Indian market by the end of 2014. 49 mm longer than its predecessor, it has a much better stance and design. Offered in four trim levels- Visia, Acenta, Acenta Premium and Tekna, the Qashqai is expected to carry a price tag in the range of Rs 18 – 28 lakh. It is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The crossover is to rival the likes of Chevrolet Captiva, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe.
Engine and performance
The Nissan Qashqai comes with diesel and petrol options. The 1.5 litre dCi diesel engine generates a maximum power of 106 bhp at 4000 rpm and kicks out a torque of 240 Nm at 2000 rpm. The 2L diesel mill delivers a top power of 110 bhp at 4000 rpm and a peak torque 0f 320 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both engine are mated to six-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the petrol engine comes with 1.6 and 2 L options. The 1.6 litre power-train develops a maximum power of 115 bhp at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 156 Nm. The 2 L engine churns out 140 bhp of power at 6000 rpm and 196 Nm of torque. A five-speed transmission is standard, but the top-end variants come with six-speed manual CV T transmission.
Nissan Qashqai is aggressively styled and is expected to be futuristic. Marginally bigger than the current generation car, the new Qashqai is expected to have better dynamics. The car gets a complete makeover. The V-shaped chrome grille and flowing line on the clam shell-style bonnet is captivating. The front fascia sports bold human eye-shaped headlamps, honeycomb grille, unique air-intake flanked by fog-lamps and bumper rapped in gray shade. On the sides, the car looks longer and the 17 inch alloy wheels and high ground clearance enhance the side profile. In the rear, the Qashqai looks more like a hatchback. The car has LED tail lights and high stop lamp at the rear spoiler. The rear has got a distinctively designed windshield as well.
The interiors of the Qashqai looks more elegant and classy. The dashboard is eye-catching and the fit and finish is top-class. The centre of dash houses an integrated audio system and AC controls. The three-spoke power steering has audio and computer controls mounted on it. The interior features include UV filter glass, rear central armrest, door pockets, two vanity mirrors and air-conditioned glove box. The base version accommodates five passengers where as the Qashqai +2 seats seven. Driver seat can be adjusted for comfort while the rear row is split single folding type. There is plenty of shoulder-room and leg-room. The gadget list comes with a seven inch touch screen with blue-tooth audio streaming and mobile phone integration as well as AUX-in and USB.
Features and specifications
The next generation Qashqai is expected to be launched in India with sound braking system equipped with ABS and EBD. In all likely hood, a refined suspension system will be installed. Cruise control, power adjustable steering and disc brakes ensure easy handling. Among other important features are six air-bags, front active head rest, immobilizer, driver lumbar support and brake assist system.
With its better stance and innovative design features, the Nissan Qashqai is sure to be crowd puller in the already crowded SUV market.
