Nissan X trail • Price, Variants & Specifications

The Nissan X Trail is the SUV that was launched by the Japanese auto company in India. However, the rather unimaginative design of the car combined with a high price tag resulted in indifferent performance of this model in the Indian market. Nissan is ready to launch the revised version of this car in India by the end of this year. The new X Trail will embody a number of features of the older model but will be presented as an all new package. It is expected to be priced around Rs 22 lacs. It is expected to compete with cars like Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour, etc.

Engine & Performance

The new X Trail is equipped with a 2 liter four cylinder DOHC diesel engine which generates a power of 150 bhp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm at 2000 rpm. This is mated to a six speed manual gearbox as in the older version. However, the new model will also offer an option of a CVT gearbox. This powerful engine has excellent pickup and the car can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 11 seconds. There is also a choice between a two wheel drive and a four wheel drive.

The new X Trail is expected to deliver a mileage of 14.5 kmpl, though the figure has not yet been verified. This is a good performance by an SUV and is likely to be one of its major selling points.

The weakest point of the X Trail is its exterior design which lacks the machismo and presence that can be expected in a car of this price range. The simplistically designed front bumper is flanked by rounded fog lights. Long taillights and a large bumper make the rear end look rather bulky. The result is a car that has a somewhat disproportionate look. Character lines have been added on side profiles to counteract the boxy appearance of the front portion of the car. Body colored outside rear view mirrors and door handles complete the external look of the car.

The interior of the new X Trail is far more impressive than the exterior. Good quality upholstery has been used and the dual tone creates an elegant feel. The seats can comfortably accommodate five persons and the new model gets a third row of seating as well. The dashboard and instrument dials look quite attractive and the steering wheel is wrapped in the same upholstery to create a classy look. There are numerous storage places including dashboard, cup holders, ticket holders etc.

Features & Specifications

The new Nissan X Trail is packed with a variety of features. The sunroof attracts the attention at the first glace. A comfortable riding experience is guaranteed, courtesy of the air conditioning with climate control. The music system with auxiliary connectivity and six speakers comprise the entertainment system along with a seven inch touch screen. Other features include cruise control, keyless entry, power adjustable front seats, tiltable steering wheel, rear camera, rear parking sensors, steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity and many more. Safety features include multiple airbags, ABS and EBD etc.

Comparison to other cars in the same segment

Compared to the other models in this segment, the X Trail performs really well as far as engine and mileage is concerned. However, its looks are in dire need of improvement if it expects to perform better than the previous model in the Indian market.

The X Trail appeared in the international market in 2013 and has remained a moderately popular SUV. While the earlier model performed poorly in the Indian market, a lot of expectations have been built on the new model of the car.
