Renault – the reputed French automobile manufacturer has recently made its presence felt in India with a number of cars across various segments. It is now all set to enter the MPV segment with its latest offering – the Dokker. The name is an abbreviation of dock worker and denotes the high carrying capacity of the vehicle. The car has been launched in the international market in 2012 and is likely to appear in India by the middle of 2016. It will be priced around Rs 8 lacs.
Engine & Performance
The Dokker comes with four different engine variations. These are the 1.2 TCe 115 and 1.6 MPI 85 petrol engines and the 75 bhp with a torque of 180 Nm at 1750 rpm and 90 bhp with a torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm 1.5 dCi diesel engines. All the engines are mated to a five sped manual transmission gearbox. The 1.2l petrol engine generates a power of 115 bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm. The 1.6l petrol engine churns out a power of 85 bhp and a peak torque of 134 Nm at 2800 rpm. All these powerful engines have resulted in excellent pickup and acceleration and the car takes only 10 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kmph.
This offering from Renault is expected to deliver a mileage of 12 kmpl in the city and 16 kmpl on the highway making it a good fuel efficient option in its segment.
The Renault Dokker has a unique and aggressive design. It commands the road easily. It has a well built framework with twin doors at the rear. The side sliding doors are one of the most attractive features of the car. The wide headlamps, fog lights and curved edges contribute to the muscular look of the car. Plastic body panels and roof bars add attractive accents to the exterior design of the car.
This car is very spacious, allowing five passengers to sit easily and a 800l boot. The interior is comfortable and luxurious. Modular seats allow comfortable seating for five passengers. The upholstery is plush and the dashboard has been designed to optimize the comfort and convenience of the driver.
Features & Specifications
The Renault Dokker is packed with features designed to offer a luxurious riding experience. Features like cruise control, steering mounted controls, rear parking sensors, air conditioner with climate control etc make this a premium luxury vehicle. Optional upgrades include a speed limiter and a reversing radar. It is equipped with a high quality media nav system with both audio and video units. It includes an auxiliary USB and features hands free Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, the Dokker is equipped with a number of safety features. There are dual front airbags, knee airbags and front curtain airbags. Electronic stability control, anti lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution helps in safe handling of the car.
Comparison to other cars in the same segment
The company has not yet revealed the details of the car making it difficult to compare this model with other cars in this segment. It promises to be a sophisticated and comfortable alternative to the other vans in the MPV segment in India.
The Dokker was presented after the merging of the French company Renault with the Romanian automobile manufacturer Dacia and was christened the Renault Dacia Dokker. This sturdy yet sophisticated vehicle has already appeared in the markets of Morocco and Romania in 2012. It is expected to perform quite well in the Indian market in its segment.
