The Tata Pixel is the new concept car by Tata. It was first unveiled in the Geneva automobile show in 2011 and was showcased in India in the Delhi Auto expo of 2012. Created on the Nano platform, the car was designed exclusively for the European market. But, according to recent reports, the Tata Pixel will be coming to India towards the end of 2014. The car is likely to be priced around Rs. 2.5 lakhs. Its futuristic looks coupled with the competitive price have already created a lot of excitement among the automobile fans.
The performance specifications of the Tata Pixel
The major selling points of the new Tata Pixel are its extremely compact design, reasonable price, stylish looks and a number of new technological innovations integrated in the car. All these have created a 4 person vehicle especially suited for the highly congested roads of a busy city.This light and compact car is powered by a 3 cylinder 1.2l turbo charged diesel engine with a displacement of 1200 cc. This is a SOHC engine capable of producing a peak power of 65 bhp at 5250 rpm. The engine has a 9 valve powertrain which delivers a peak torque of 48 Nm at 3000 rpm. The power is supplied to the rear wheels just like its predecessor, Nano on which platform the Pixel is formed. The engine is lightweight and fuel efficient, leaving very little carbon footprint. The start stop technology incorporated in this car has helped in reducing the carbon emission. This engine has been mated with 4 speed manual transmission and electric power steering which help in easy manoeuvrability of the carThe car accelerates from 0 to 60 kmph within only 8 seconds while it is capable of a top speed of 105 kmph. It is also fuel efficient and gives an average mileage of 29 kmpl.Tata Pixel is equipped 180 mm drum brakes in front and back. It comes with McPherson struts in the front and independent coil spring suspension in the rear, making the drive comfortable.
The external appearance of the Tata Pixel
The futuristic design of the Tata Pixel is the first most attention grabbing feature of the car. This two door hatch is small and compact, constructed on the Nano platform. The bumper in front is quite bulky while the rear bumper is also similar in style. The bulging wheel arches are set within this bumper, both front and rear. The long front windshield, the monographic roof and the angular headlights make the car look sporty.But it is the scissor door of the Tata Pixel which adds the real premium touch to the appearance of the car. This feature is great for parking in busy cities and adds to the beauty of the car as well. The windows are upswept, emphasizing the aerodynamic design while the rear lamps are set quite high.This compact car is 3100 mm long, 1600 mm wide and 1500 mm high.
