Toyota Etios Cross • Price, Variants & Specifications

With the launch of Etios Cross, Toyota is geared up for competition in the fast growing compact SUV segment. Built on the Etios platform, the Etios Cross looks rugged, muscular and sportier with its chunky body cladding. Billed as Toyota’s first ever crossover, the Etios Cross is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5.5-7.5 lakh. This under 4metre crossover is available in both petrol and diesel variants. The Car is all set to take on the likes of Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Awentura and Maruti SX4 S Cross.

Engine and performance

The Etios Cross gets all the engine options in Etios hatchback and sedan line-up. There are two petrol engines. The 1.2 litre mill produces 80 bhp of power and a maximum torque of 104 Nm. On the other hand, the 1.5 litre power-train generates 90 bhp and a peak torque of 132 Nm.The diesel variant comes fitted with a 1.4 litre D-4D engine which churns out 68 bhp of power at 3800 rpm and a top torque of 170 Nm at 1800 rpm. All the three power train are mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The petrol variant reportedly offers 16.5 kmpl where as the diesel engine returns a healthy mileage of 23.5 kmpl.

Exterior

Despite sharing platform with Liva, the Etios Cross looks more rugged and has an off-roader appearance. The Cross sports a new grille guard, distinctive side cladding and a bold front grille. In the front, the single split black grille with vertical stacks is a redesigned one completely different from the smiling chrome grille in the Liva Line-up. The trapezoidal grille frame has been integrated with the headlights. The fog lights with turn indicators receive silver casing. The car comes with roof-rails with silver finish. On the sides, the new diamond cut alloy wheels and the chunky black cladding enhances the sporty and muscular looks. The rear remains the same except for the boot lid that receives Etios cross moniker. The roof mounted spoiler and ORVM with turn indicators and rear defogger with wiper are among other key features.

Interior

The Etios Cross looks rich and luxurious inside. The cabin is well-furnished. The piano black interiors, leather-wrapped steering wheel and sporty seat fabric with white stitch and logo add to its richness. The fit and finish is good and the seats come with adjustable head rests. An ash brown fabric replaces the red black combination of the Liva. In terms of comfort and cabin space, the Etios Cross is superior to its hatchback sibling. A 2DIN audio system with steering mounted control, AUX-in, USB and blue-tooth connectivity are among other key features.

Features and specifications

The Toyota Etios Cross ensures the highest standards of safety with dual front SRS airbags, ABS with EBD and the globally renowned promise of Toyota’s QDR standards. The suspension system is robust and ideally placed, promising comfortable ride. Equipped with electronic power steering, the car handles well and ensures good maneuverability with a turning radius of 4.9m. The other key features are engine immobilizer, keyless entry, alarms on all doors and front seat belts with pre-tensioners.

All in all, Toyota’s Etios Cross is a combination of rugged styling, performance, functions, features and the promise of QDR standards.
