Hero MotoCorp is about to take a lead in the eco-friendly two wheeler segment with its Leap Hybrid SES. Hero unveiled this product in the 2014 Auto Expo along with other conventional petrol motorcycles. If launched in April 2019, it will be the first hybrid scooter from an Indian manufacturer.

Leap hybrid SED gets a unique appearance with sleek and lean design. Round LED headlamp at the top, the secondary LED lamp at the centre of the front cowl and the compact visor make it stylish. Spacious foot board well cushioned wide seat for rider and passenger and the pillion grab rail will be offered for a comfortable ride. A fully digital instrument cluster could be expected which could provide all the information.

Leap Hybrid SES gets power from an 8kW Permanent management AC (PMAC) motor which is powered by lithium ion battery which could produce 10.7bhp power and 60Nm torque. One of the very interesting factors is that, the torque is available from zero rpm.

It gets a 124 cc petrol engine which is connected to an on-board generator which diverts the electricity towards the lithium ion battery. A three litre fuel tank also is given. Leap will be capable of touching 100kmph while running on the petrol engine. Brembo twin piston disc brakes in front and drum brake in rear ensure safety.

It doesn’t get a direct competition; it could be an interesting product as it comes with innovative technology.
