The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is a private and non-governmental education board run by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations. In 1952, All India Certificate Examinations Conference was held under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, the minister for education, with an aim of replacing the overseas Cambridge School Certificate Examinations by an All India Examination. In 1956, at a meeting of the Inter-State Board of Anglo-Indian Education, a proposal was adopted for setting up CISCE to administer examinations by the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate. The first meeting of the Council was held in 1958 and later in 1973 the Council was listed in the Delhi School Education Act as a board that conducts examinations. The Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations conducts three examinations- ICSE for 10th grade, ISC and Indian Vocational Education (IVE) both for 12th grade.
