Until one day, Amirta gets slapped by her husband for no apparent reason. During a party, Amrita’s husband Vikram (Pavail) slaps her, which wakes up Amirta from the long slumber and she starts to re-evaluate the relationship and her life. The slap triggers the turmoil in Amrita, she starts to question her value system, her beliefs and address the much needed issue, deep-rooted chauvinism.

Recently, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha declared that Thappad, is meant to be the concluding feature of his ''discrimination trilogy''.
