June 29 : Disney+ Hotstar today announced that it will host seven blockbuster Bollywood movies in the coming months. This announcement was made at a special live online event today, attended by Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Uday Shankar, Chairman, Star & Disney India.
The seven blockbuster films that are skipping theatrical releases and will be released straight on the streaming app include Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Akshay Kumar’s Laxxmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull, Kunal Kemmu’s Lootcase, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Haafiz, and late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara. These films will be released between July and October this year, starting with Dil Bechara on July 24.
While Varun Dhawan was seen playing the role of the interviewer, the superstars spoke about their films and their interesting experience about the film. “Laxxmi Bomb is extremely dear to me as it is something unique I have attempted for the first time!” Akshay said. Laxxmi Bomb’s director Raghava Lawrence told in a recent interview that a lot of post-production work is left to be completed as the team is working from home, the process is taking longer than usual time.
Ajay said through this initiative of ‘First Day First Show’ by Disney+ Hotstar Multiplex, people will once again start looking forward to new film releases. Bhuj: The Pride of India is directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya, and Ajay plays Squadron Leader, who was in charge of the Bhuj airbase in Gujarat during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar, and Ammy Virk.
Alia said Sadak 2 is her first film with her father, which makes it a dream come true. Sadak 2’s director Mahesh Bhatt said in an interview that he was compelled to release the film on the digital platforms because there is the hope of a theatrical release in the near future due to coronavirus pandemic. While the film marks Mahesh Bhatt’s comeback to direction, the film also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, and Pooja Bhatt.
The Big Bull is loosely based on the life of Harshad Mehta. Co-produced by Ajay Devgn, it also stars Ileana D’Cruz.
