July 01 : Expanding its product portfolio, American manufacturer Fossil has launched its Solar Watch in India. The designer watch comes in two dial options, and the company claims that once fully charged, it runs for 4 months. The solar-powered watch, whose straps are made from plastic bottles, is the company’s first attempt towards creating products with sustainable materials. The watch is also made without using any animal by-products.
Price in India
The Fossil Solar Watch with 36 mm and 42 mm dial-options can be purchased at Rs. 9,995. According to the company, there are only 1,754 pieces of these watches available to purchase globally. This limited edition Solar Watch is available at Fossil India site and at select Fossil retail shops. Fossil has claimed that it will plant a tree for every Solar Watch being purchased, and has partnered with EcoMatcher for the same. Buyers will get the opportunity to name the tree, check the status of its planting, and track its CO2 performance.
The Solar Watch is a regular wristwatch and not a smartwatch. The outer ring of the watch is the solar panel that captures the light and converts it into energy and stores in a solar cell housed under the dial. The watch needs five hours to be fully charged under the sun. In case of low battery, the second needle moves after every 2 seconds instead of 1 second. This alerts the users to charge the watch.
The watch offers a black-coloured dial with five colourful strap options—blue, green, orange, pink, and yellow.
