September 16 : After Jaya Bachchan’s fiery speech in Rajya Sabha on Monday regarding drug allegations on Bollywood, the former actress and MP has been supported by many from the film industry. However, Jaya Bachchan and her family have been receiving threats on social media after she defended the film industry during the Parliament’s monsoon session.
A Times Now report suggests that the Maharashtra government has increased parameter security for the Bachchan family around two bungalows where Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya, Abhishek, Aishwarya and Aaradhya stay. It is reported that while security in the area has been increased as a precautionary measure, the family has not been given any special protection.
Taking on MP and actor Ravi Kishan, Jaya Bachchan objected the way Bollywood was being “flogged” by social media. The veteran actress slammed those who are trying to tarnish the image of the Hindi film industry, and stated that the entertainment industry needs protection from the government. Hinting at Kangana Ranaut, Jaya said in her speech that “People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree.” Kangana Ranaut has been openly claiming that drug addiction exists in the Hindi film industry.
Several Bollywood celebrities including Shabana Azmi, Sonam Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, Genelia Deshmukh, filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, and others supported Jaya Bachchan's speech.
Questioning Jaya Bachchan's comment, Kangana had tweeted, “Jaya ji would you say the same thing if in my place it was your daughter Shweta beaten, drugged and molested as a teenage, would you say the same thing if Abhishek complained about bullying and harassment constantly and found hanging one day? Show compassion for us also.”
