September 25 : In an important development, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officers are reportedly unhappy with the media coverage of the leaked WhatsApp chats about drugs. NCB officers reportedly said that due to the display of the “drug chats” on TV channels, their investigation has been weakened.
The NCB has been investigating drug abuse in Bollywood on the basis of these WhatsApp chats. The NCB officers reportedly said that they had a chance to seize drugs from some celebrities' homes but due to the TV coverage of the chats everyone is on now on alert. The NCB team wanted to collect more evidence before summoning the celebrities, but they had to summon them early due to the media coverage of the leaked chats. A Mid-Day report has also quoted an NCB officer who said that now all the peddlers have gone underground.
The Mid-Day report also stated that the NCB officer said, “Our probe has found links between drug cartels and high profile celebs. We were slowly moving towards making seizures. This would have helped us build a watertight case. But the display of WhatsApp chats and other electronic evidence on TV news channels has weakened our case against celebs who can now only be booked for consumption.”
Rhea Chakraborty's bail plea adjourned till September 29
The Bombay High Court heard the bail application of Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty on Thursday. Rhea's lawyer Satish Maneshinde reportedly said, “NCB's probe is without jurisdiction and illegal in view of the fact that case no. 16/20 is in relation to the drug angle in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. The Supreme Court in its August 19 order had ordered the transfer of all cases to CBI. Hence, this probe is illegal.”
Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, who appeared for the NCB, sought time to file a reply. The court, therefore, pushed the hearing of all applications related to the case on September 29.
Showik questioned in jail
The NCB further questioned Showik and Sushant's house help Deepesh Sawant in the jail on Thursday after getting permission from the NDPS court. The NCB recorded their statements as links with Sara and Shraddha cropped up. These actresses will appear before the NCB on September 26.
