November 24 : Delhi Crime, which won the International Emmy Award 2020 for the Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmy Awards, became the first Indian show to win an Emmy. The award ceremony was held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Written and directed by Richie Mehta, the web series starred Shefali Shah as the lead character DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. The show also starred Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang. The series is about the aftermath of the 2012 Delhi gang rape. The show was released on Netflix on March 22, 2019. The first two episodes of the web series were premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2019.

While congratulatory messages started pouring in for Shefali Shah, B-town actors took to their social media to congratulate the team of Delhi Crime. Vidya Balan wrote on her Instagram story, “Hooray! Congratulations Shefali Shah, Richie Mehta, and team Delhi Crime on the International Emmys for the Best Drama Series. So richly deserved.”

Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, who directed Shefali in Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015, wrote “India just won its first Emmy. Congratulations Richie Mehta, Kilian Kerwin and Shefali Shah and thank you Netflix.”

In the comments section of Shefali’s post, War actor Hrithik Roshan wrote: “Wow, wow, wow. Well deserved !”

Congratulating the team, filmmaker-producer Karan Johar wrote, “This is just amazing! Congratulation to the entire team! Richly deserved!
