November 25 : Bhumi Pednekar and Arshad Warsi starrer Durgamati: The Myth’s trailer has been dropped on Wednesday. Going by the trailer, the film has all the masalas to spice it up—from dirty politics, terror, secrets, to conspiracy and revenge. The film recently underwent a name change from Durgavati to Durgamati: The Myth.
Bhumi plays Chanchal Chauhan an IAS officer, who has been taken to the Durgamati haveli as a prisoner to get her to toe the line, only to find out that the palace has more secrets than imagined.
The film is set against the backdrop of politics—rather dirty politics. The trailer introduces a no-nonsense cop played by Mahie Gill, who is solving the case of idols being stolen from temples. Out to get the political leader played by Arshad Warsi, Mahie Gill’s cop character zeroes in on the prisoner, played by Bhumi. Several spooky incidents take place during Chanchal’s stay in the Durgamati haveli.
In the haveli, Durgamati’s ghost takes over, and horror and revenge rule the roost in producers Akshay Kumar, Bhushan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra’s latest outing. The film also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Karan Kapadia in prominent roles.
Sharing the trailer on her Instagram handle, Bhumi, who looked promising in the trailer, wrote a long note: “I have waited so long to share this with all of you. This one is pure sweat, blood & hard work. There were moments of pure joy and times I cried of pain. My most special & challenging one so far.”
The horror flick is Bhumi’s first where she is holding the film all alone. In an earlier interview, the actress said that doing the film was exciting as well as nerve-wrecking. “There was a lot of responsibility on me,” she said.
Durgamati will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from December 11, 2020. Helmed by G. Ashok, the horror thriller is a remake of his own 2018 Telugu-Tamil film Bhaagamathie.
