November 28 : Many Bollywood actors are aware of the crucial situation of organ donations, and realise the fact that by pledging to donate their organs, they can save some lives. The latest to jump into this bandwagon is the Sanju actor Ranbir Kapoor.
At an event to spread awareness about organ donation on the National Organ Donation Day on Friday, Ranbir took a pledge to donate his organs. At the Amar Gandhi Foundation event, the Jagga Jasoos actor said, “I pledge and donate my organs. I hope that by me doing this it will make a difference to one or two persons’ lives. If this keeps going forward, it will make a difference, so please do consider pledging your organs.” Ranbir's late father Rishi Kapoor had also pledged his organs in March 2014.
Supporting organ donation initiative, Alia Bhatt said, “It is important to make people aware of the process behind it. I think it is important to come and talk about the health issues and Amar Gandhi Foundation and Organ donation awareness drive make people aware of the prospects of their organ donation, alive or post-death.”
Earlier this year, Amitabh Bachchan had revealed that he is a pledged organ donor, and wore the ‘ribbon of its sanctity’ during an episode of his game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. The megastar will donate his eyes, as per media reports. The megastar’s daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has also pledged her organs.
During her father’s treatment for cancer in 2013, Priyanka learnt about organ donation, and has pledged donating all her organs. She has also raised awareness about organ donation on several platforms.
Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and wife Kiran Rao, Rani Mukerji and R Madhavan are some other Bollywood celebrities who have pledged their organs.
