November 30 : The short film Shameless, written and directed by Keith Gomes, and starring Sayani Gupta, has been selected to compete in the Live Action Short Film category at the 93rd Academy Awards.
Sayani of Four More Shots Please! fame and Hussain Dalal of Judgmentall Hai Kya fame star in this 15-minute long black comedy film, which beat Vidya Balan's Natkhat in the race to Oscar. The film that was released in April 2019 also features Rishabh Kapoor. Bankrolled by Ashley Gomes and national award winner Sandeep Kamal, the film’s sound is designed by Oscar winner Resul Pookutty.
Shameless has been selected from a list of five films that included Natkhat, Sound Proof, Safar and Trapped. Shameless is based on the theme of loss of human spirit due to technology. The film also raises important questions on the entitlement, humanity and empathy shown towards the migrant class. Hussain plays a man who works from home and always orders food online, while Sayani essays the role of a pizza delivery girl. One day Hussain's character wakes up to find being trapped by the pizza delivery girl.
Shameless was also one of the finalists at the recently concluded 3rd edition of the Best of India Short Film Festival 2020.
In a statement, director Keith Gomes said, “I observe human behaviour and love telling stories about the human spirit. This world needs kindness and my films are a reminder to not get lost into technology. I have to thank my incredible cast and my crew of National and Oscar award winners. I make films with little funding from family and friends, everyone comes together with loads of love and passion. Couldn't be more blessed.”
Recently, Keith Gomes' award winning children's short film Doobie was released. It narrates a story about love, hope and the unyielding spirit of a rag picker child, inspired by a true life story.
