December 08 : With the year coming to a close, Forbes Asia has launched its inaugural Forbes Asia’s 100 Digital Stars list today, highlighting the celebrities from across the Asia-Pacific region, who have taken the digital world by storm. This prestigious list includes singers, bands, film and TV stars, who have a strong social media presence, and despite this year’s challenging times, maintained their millions of followers, their relevance and popularity through the powerful social media platforms. Many have also used their influence to raise funds for the worthy cause of Covid-19. Amongst these 100 celebrities, 10 are from India.

Bollywood’s highest-paid actor, Akshay Kumar, is also one of India’s most-followed stars, with over 131 million followers on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Akshay had also donated $4 million to Covid-19 relief in India and also took part in the ‘I For India’ fundraising concert on Facebook Live in May, which raised $7 million for India’s Covid-19 fund.

Amitabh Bachchan, who was infected with Covid-19 virus earlier his year, has been an influencer during the pandemic and helped in raising $7 million for coronavirus relief.

While Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh also find a place amongst these 100 influential people, Alia Bhatt is also included in this list, who enjoys 74 million followers across various platforms. The actress endorses at least 18 brands and recently began the Ed-a-Mamma clothing line for children.

Shah Rukh Khan has over 108 million followers across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The superstar is one of the influential celebrities in India enjoying a massive fan following. In 2018, the World Economic Forum honoured him for championing women’s and children’s rights.

Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Anushka Sharma, singers Neha Kakkar and Shreya Ghoshal are also included in the top 100 list.

According to Forbes, the magazine choose the finalists for the top 100 list by evaluating the candidates’ combined social media reach and engagement. They also consider their recent work, impact and advocacy, brand endorsements and business endeavours, and their recognition profile on a local, regional, and global level.
