January 21 : Web series are increasingly getting entangled in legal troubles and are being targeted for "violating laws". A section of the society object to web series being not censored, which help them to project anything and everything in bad light. While the web series Tandav is being targeted, today, the makers of the web series Mirzapur 2 and Amazon Prime Video have been served with the Supreme Court notice based on a plea filed over the portrayal of Mirzapur, a district in Uttar Pradesh, in bad light.

Amazon Prime Video's web series Mirzapur 2 is the latest to get into legal trouble as the makers have received a legal notice and have been asked to respond to the plea filed against them for showing Mirzapur district in bad light. The Supreme Court notice came two days after an FIR was registered by a resident of the district against the producers of Mirzapur for hurting religious sentiments and damaging the image of Mirzapur. The complaint also pointed out that the web series has shown abusive content and illicit relationships.

The controversy around Amazon Prime Video's web series Tandav has already created a stir across the nation. The web series starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and others has been in the news ever since its release on January 15, 2021. Many politicians and leaders are demanding a ban on the series as they alleged that the web series hurt the religious and political sentiments of people in India. While the BJP has sought action against the makers of the series, Maharashtra government has said that it will take action as per the law.

Aashram trailer- Bobby Deol

MX Player's web series Aashram starring Bobby Deol in the lead character was also in legal trouble last year. A number of FIRs were filed against Prakash Jha, the maker of the web series, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of religious gurus by portraying them in a bad light. FIRs also alleged that the web series has hurt the sentiments of the SC & ST community, and also promoted discrimination and untouchability.

Netflix original's web series A Suitable Boy, directed by Mira Nair and starring Ishaan Khatta, Tabu and others, also landed in legal trouble for showing the lead characters kissing in a temple. An FIR was filed against the makers of the series in Riva, Madhya Pradesh last year, which asked them to cut out the scene. Madhya Pradesh.

Home Minister Narottam Mishra has also said that A Suitable Boy depicts "extremely objectionable content" hurting religious sentiments. He has also directed the police officials to consider taking legal action against the producer and the director of the OTT series. Netizens also trended #BoycottNetflix on social media platforms.

Pataal Lok, Anushka Sharma's first digital venture as a producer, was also in legal trouble. A legal notice was served to Anushka for hurting the sentiments of the Gorkha community in a particular scene. A member of the Lawyers Guild, Viren Sri Gurung, sent Anushka a legal notice asking her to respond to his plea. The plea pointed out that a dialogue in the web series is objectionable and especially problematic at a time when the Gorkha community faced racism issues during the coronavirus pandemic.
