January 22 : Saif Ali Khan has already created a place of his own in Bollywood with several blockbuster hits in his kitty. His performance in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Jawaani Jaaneman, both in 2020, have been highly appreciated by the audiences and the film critics as well. Tanhaji grossed Rs. 367 crore and became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2020.
Saif was one of the few lucky actors whose films were released on the big screen in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic hit the industry. He has also started 2021 on a high note as he is seen in one web series, and will be seen in at least two films.
Saif opened the New Year 2021 with his web series Tandav on Amazon Prime Video and got himself tangled in legal troubles. Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Tandav started streaming January 15, 2021. Saif portrays the role of a powerful politician in the series. The nine-episode series also stars Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dimple Kapadia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Dino Morea, and Anup Soni.
The I&B Ministry, for the first time, summoned Amazon Prime and the show’s makers for an explanation and directed it to edit out a few scenes. Many FIRs have been filed against the series in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Two scenes have also been edited out.
The sequel to the blockbuster Bunty Aur Babli in 2005, Bunty aur Babli 2 stars Saif, Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and debutante Sharvari Wagh. Directed by Varun Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film was scheduled to be released in June 2020. However, it has been pushed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last schedule of the film took place in Abu Dhabi.
Saif’s second film in 2021 will be the horror-comedy Bhoot Police. Directed by Pavan Kirpalani and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri, the film also stars Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yami Gautam, and Javed Jaffery. While the shooting of the film began in November 2020 in Himachal Pradesh, the next schedule took place in Jaisalmer.
