January 27 : Over the years, Bollywood has churned out winning patriotic films that have won thousands of hearts and have also proved to be box office hits—the latest been the film Uri: The Surgical Strike. A number of such films are lined up this year as well that tell the stories about the country's unsung heroes. These films will not only impact people’s lives but will also arouse their patriotic feelings.
John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate 2
As the nation celebrated 72nd Republic Day, John Abraham announced the new release date of Satyameva Jayate 2. The film will hit the cinemas on Eid, May 14, 2021. This Milap Zaveri directorial is sequel to the 2018 film Satyamev Jayate starring John and Manoj Bajpayee. Satyameva Jayate 2 also features Divya Khosla Kumar in the pivotal role. The vigilante action film is about the fight against injustice and misuse of power.
Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India
The historical war drama film, Bhuj: The Pride of India, is directed, co-produced and written by Abhishek Dudhaiya. Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the film narrates how IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who was then in-charge of the Bhuj airport, reconstructed the IAF airbase with the help of his team and 300 women from the local village Madhapar. Starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar, Ammy Virk, and Pranitha Subhash, the film will stream directly on Disney+Hotstar worldwide, but a release date has not yet been announced.
Vicky Kaushal’s Sardar Udham Singh
Vicky Kaushal plays revolutionary freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh in his biopic with the same title. Udham Singh had assassinated Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, Michael O’Dwyer, in London in 1940. It was during his tenure that the Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred on April 13, 1919, in which over 300 Indians were killed. Helmed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by his Rising Sun Films in collaboration with Kino Works, the film rolled in the first quarter of 2019. The movie is expected to hit the silver screens soon.
Kangana Ranaut’s Tejas
Kangana Ranaut has already started work on her upcoming film Tejas where she plays a fighter pilot. Directed by Sarvesh Mewara and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Tejas is an exhilarating story that is an ode to the brave Air Force pilots of the country. In 2016, Indian Air Force was the first of the country's defence forces to induct women into combat roles. Tejas is based on this landmark event. Kangana had attended workshops and trained for months to play her role. Tejas is expected to hit the big screens in April 2021.
Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershaah
Starring Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani and Jaaved Jaaferi in pivotal roles, Shershaah is a war film produced by Karan Johar. Well-known director of the Tamil film industry, Vishnuvardhan, will debut in Bollywood as a filmmaker with Shershaah. Sidharth plays a double role, as Army Captain and Param Vir Chakra awardee Vikram Batra and as his twin brother Vishal Batra. While Kiara plays Vikram’s fiancé Dimple Cheema, Jaaved portrays Major Ashraf Ali in this action film. The makers are yet to decide the release date of the film that was wrapped up in January 2020.
Vicky Kaushal’s Manekshaw
In the film Manekshaw, Vicky Kaushal plays Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He was also the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. Directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, the film is not a biopic but an interesting narrative put together with iconic incidents from Sam Manekshaw’s life.
