March 05 : Netflix has announced an array of films, series, reality shows, and documentaries for 2021. The mixed string of entertainment is quite impressive as several promising shows are in the pipeline. Let’s check out the list.
Bombay Rose is an animated film written, designed and directed by Gitanjali Rao. The film was premiered at Venice Film Festival in 2019, and Toronto International Film Festival. The film captures the story of a flower seller who falls in love with an anime in the Indian setting. It is slated to release on Netflix on March 8, 2021.
Actor-director Pooja Bhatt is making a full-fledged comeback with the Netflix show Bombay Begums. Directed by Lipstick Under My Burkha fame director Alankrita Shrivastava, Bombay Begums explores the dreams and desires of five women from different strata of society as they fight for survival in the city. Also starring Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand, Bombay Begums will premiere on Netflix on March 8.
The Sanya Malhotra starrer flick is about a young widow who is unable to mourn her husband’s death. As her family starts reacting to her strange behaviour, Sanya’s character seeks to find out what is ‘wrong’ with her. Written and directed by Umesh Bist, and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Guneet Monga and Achin Jain, Pagglait will start streaming on Netflix from March 12.
Helmed by Ram Madhvani, Dhamaka marks Kartik Aaryan’s debut in the digital space. The film captures a frustrated ex-news anchor, who gets a second chance to go live on prime time television when a terrorist calls him with a bomb threat. The call changes his life completely and throws him into a game of betrayal.
Kapil Sharma’s comedy show
Kapil Sharma’s comedy show will make a transition from television to the streaming platform. Recently, the star comedian had shared a teaser, announcing his collaboration with Netflix. However, he did not share any details about the show. It will be interesting to see what the show turns out to be—a sketch comedy series or a chat show.
Starring Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani, Meenakshi Sunderashwar is a romantic comedy revolving around a young couple and their long-distance relationship. Helmed by Vivek Soni, who debuts as a director, the film is set in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and tells the couple’s chaotic and hilarious story about their relationship, marriage, and love.
Starring Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh, Sardar Ka Grandson is a family entertainer. The film also stars Neena Gupta, while John Abraham and Aditi Rao Hydari will make a cameo. Directed by Kaashvie Nair and written by Anuja Chauhan, Sardar Ka Grandson is produced by John Abraham under his company John Abraham Entertainment, along with Emmay Entertainment and T-Series.
Madhuri Dixit Nene will make her debut in the digital space with Netflix’ original Finding Anamika. The series is about Anamika, who is associated with beauty, poise, grace and elegance. But unfortunately, an untoward event changes everything in her life. Skeletons hidden in her closet come rushing out as there is more in the drama than meets the eye.
Raveena Tandon is all set to make her digital debut with Aranyak. The mysterious, intriguing story based in Himachal Pradesh is about her character Kasturi Dogra, who struggles to balance her personal and professional life, like many other women. Aranyak captures the story of two cops on a journey to find a missing tourist in Himachal, and eventually they discover a bloodthirsty entity in the forest.
