March 06 : Farhan Akhtar starrer sports drama Toofan will reportedly skip a theatrical release. Instead, the much-awaited and much-talked-about film will now directly premiere on the OTT streaming giant platform Amazon Prime Video.
Farhan Akhtar had earlier given a stellar performance in another sports drama Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and had garnered immense appreciation for the same.
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Toofan stars Farhan Akhtar as a national level boxer. Besides Farhan, the film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal in important supporting roles. Toofan had started filming in Dongri on August 26, 2019 and was wrapped up in March 2020. It was all set to release on September 18, 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, the release date was postponed indefinitely. Now, it is reported that Toofan will premiere directed on Amazon Prime Video.
Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra had reunited in Toofan after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The actor underwent immense training to get into the skin of a boxer for the film. Unlike Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Toofan is not a biopic but a fictional story. Farhan was last seen in the film the Sky Is Pink alongside Priyanka Chopra.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Farhan and his sister Zoya Akhtar are planning a road trip film on the lines of Zoya’s directorial film Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara, which starred Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol, who were on a road trip of self-discovery. This time the sibling duo is planning a road trip film with three female protagonists. While Farhan will direct the flick, it is written by him and Zoya. It is reported that he has chosen Alia Bhatt as his main lead.
