May 04 : Kriti Sanon, who has recently completed shoot of three films amidst the pandemic, will most likely see one of her films get released digitally soon. While the actress has recently completed Bachchan Pandey, Hum Do Hamaare Do, and Bhediya, her film Mimi was completed in 2020 and was slated to release theatrically last year. Now the makers of the film are considering to release the film on the digital space.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, written by Rohan Shankar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under his banner Maddock Films, Mimi is loosely based on the 2011 Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy! In the film, Kriti’s first female centric movie, the actress will be seen playing the role of a surrogate mother. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Manoj Pahwa and Supriya Pathak. The film went on floors in Churu on October 29, 2019. While it could not be released in 2020 owning to the pandemic, the makers failed to get it released in 2021 as well as they were waiting for the situation to become normal. Amidst all this, the second wave of the virus hit the country and made it impossible for theatres to reopen in the next three months.
Now, it is reported that Dinesh Vijan is considering releasing Mimi on the digital space, and has struck a deal with a big streaming giant to premiere it online. It is also reported that the producer has been offered a good profit for getting the film streamed on the digital platform. An announcement for the same is expected soon.
Dinesh Vijan had also got his film Roohi release theatrically on March 11, 2021, but the film didn’t do well in the theatres as it was still amidst the pandemic. Moreover, the horror comedy film, which is directed by Hardik Mehta, and stars Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma, received negative reviews from the critics. It has now started streaming on a digital platform.
