May 08 : Kangana Ranaut is in trouble yet again. After her Twitter account was permanently suspended for posting tweets about post West Bengal elections that could have instigated violence amongst communities, the ruling party of the state, Trinamool Congress (TMC), filed an FIR against the actress in Kolkata.
The FIR has been lodged by TMC spokesperson Riju Datta on the basis of Kangana allegedly instigating communal disharmony by spreading fake news and giving hate speech through social media. Riju Datta alleged that Kangana has given a hate speech against the TMC party after they won the assembly elections over BJP. He mentioned that Kangana had tweeted urging the Prime Minister to stop the “gundai” in Bengal with “super gundai”. Riju Datta also accused that the Panga actress uploaded distorted pictures of the Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Kolkata Police has registered a case against the actress under sections 153A, 504,505 IPC and 43 and 66 IT Act.
In a letter, Riju Datta wrote, “Ms Ranaut has posted several posts from her verified official Instagram handle bearing url: https://instagram.com/kanganaranaut?igshid=2yruw6zd7j in the ‘Story’ section. She has also distorted and maligned the image of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal – Smt. Mamata Banerjee. Hence she is to be charged against hate propaganda to incite violence in West Bengal.”
Reacting to the FIR filed by the TMC spokesperson, Kangana took to her Instagram story and accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of “killing my voice” and said, “You cannot scare me with many cases or FIRs.”
On May 3, a lawyer had also filed an FIR against Kangana by sharing the links of her three tweets and stating that she has “demeaned, insulted, hurt the sentiments of the people of Bengal”. Netizens also commented against Kangana’s tweets when she urged Modi to show his “virat roop” against Mamata Banerjee.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kangana’s forthcoming film Thalaivi, which was slated to get a theatrical release on April 23, was postponed owning to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. The actress also has Tejas, Dhaakad, and Manikarnika Returns: The Legend Of Didda in the pipeline.
