July 20 : Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who had earlier collaborated with filmmaker Mani Ratnam for films like Iruvar, Guru, and Raavan, is set to work with him yet again. Aishwarya, who was shooting for Mani Ratnam’s next Ponniyin Selvan, has shared some update about the film on her Instagram, today.

The Guru actress shared the first poster of the period drama Ponniyin Selvan on her Instagram handle. Sharing the poster of the film, the actress wrote: "The golden era comes to life. Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan PS1."

Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 is a period drama in Tamil based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955’s popular historical novel Ponniyin Selvan (The Son Of Ponni). The film stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead alongside Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lekshmi among others. The film is being co-produced by Lyca Productions and Mani Ratnam under his production studio Madras Talkies.

It is co-written by Ratnam along with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan. The film's music is composed by A. R. Rahman.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had earlier worked with Mani Ratnam in his 2007 film Guru and 2010 film Raavan. Both the films starred Aishwarya's husband Abhishek Bachchan. While Guru was a hit, Raavan failed to impress the box office. Aishwarya also worked with Mani Ratnam in the 1997 Tamil film Iruvar, which was Aishwarya's debut film in Tamil.

On the work front, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was last seen in the 2018 musical film Fanney Khan, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. The film did not do well at the box office. In 2018, the actress had confirmed the news that she and Abhishek were working together yet again in Sarvesh Mewara's Gulab Jamun. However, in 2019, it was reported that the power couple has opted out of the film as they had some issues with the script. The film was being produced by Anurag Kashyap.
