July 25 : On the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, the makers of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer Shershaah dropped the trailer of the film on Sunday evening. Sidharth and Kiara launched the trailer of the film at Kargil today.
Helmed by Vishnu Varadhan and jointly produced by Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment, Shershaah is based on the life of the Kargil war hero, Captain Vikram Batra, who died during the war in 1999. The film also stars Shiv Panditt, Raj Arjun, Pranay Pachauri, Himanshu Ashok Malhotra, Nikitin Dheer, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, Shataf Figar and Pawan Chopra in pivotal roles.
The trailer opens with the voice-over of Sidharth Malhotra, who plays Vikram Batra in the film. He is heard saying that the life of an armyman is the most respectable one and there is no religion for them beyond their love for the country. Sidharth is then seen reporting to duty as Vikram Batra. The trailer gives a glimpse of his personal and professional life. The Param Veer Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra’s life has been shown—from his romance with his girl friend played by Kiara Advani to his sacrifice for the country. Kiara essayed the role of Dimple Cheema, Vikram’s fiancee, who did not marry after his death and lives as his widow.
Sidharth essayed his role strongly, and he was seen saying the famous line said by Vikram Batra, "Ya to Tiranga lehra ke aunga ya Tirange me lipat kar aunga (Either I will return after hoisting the national flag or come back wrapped in it)." Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has also been featured in the film, and was seen giving his famous speech, in which he said, "Hum shanti ki raksha ke liye shakti ka pradarshan karna jaante hain (We can show our strength to protect our peace)."
The film captures the Kargil War, which was fought in 1999 between India and Pakistan between May and July. War was declared as Pakistani troops and terrorists from across the border infiltrated into India.
Sidharth as Vikram Batra is seen rising up to the challenge of defending the country at the hour of need. He was sent to the forefront of the war, where he was seen full of courage and valour, ready to live and die for India.
The makers of Shershaah are going in for a global premiere as it will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video in India and across 240 countries and territories starting August 12, 2021, a lead up to the Independence Day Weekend.
