October 12 : Netflix dropped a teaser for the upcoming film Meenakshi Sundareshwar today. The romantic comedy starring Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani is produced by Karan Johar's Dharmatic Entertainment, and helmed by debut director Vivek Soni.
Meenakshi Sundareshwar is about the modern love story of a young couple, Meenakshi and Sundareshwar, and how they learn to adjust to long-distance married life. The film encapsulates the various interlinked aspects of relationships, joint families, the awkwardness in a new marriage. Meenakshi Sundareshwar will premiere on Netflix on November 5. Written by Vivek Soni and Aarsh Vora, the film also marks the digital debut of Abhimanyu Dassani.
Sharing the teaser on his Instagram handle, producer Karan Johar wrote, “This festive season, Meenakshi & Sundareshwar are taking you along for their journey of keeping love alive, despite the distance!️ #MeenakshiSundareshwar coming to Netflix on November 5.”
The teaser begins with Sanya’s voice-over, who shares her thoughts on Abhimanyu’s reaction after he visits her home along with his parents to meet her. Sanya feels excited and nervous too. The Ludo actress is seen interacting with Abhimanyu and asking his likes his dislikes. Trying to qualify to Sanya expectations, Abhimanyu says, ‘I am an engineer and engineer makes the best husbands”. To this Sanya asks ‘How?’ and he responds, “because we don’t give up that easily. Be it relationships or education, if we have decided anything, we complete it”.
The teaser also gives glimpses of their South Indian marriage and how they try to strike a balance between work and life together. While sharing the teaser, Sanya wrote, “Welcome to this new chapter of Sundar and Meenakshi’s life and get ready to witness this one-of-a-kind long-distance love story. #MeenakshiSundareshwar is coming to Netflix on November 5.”
Sanya was last seen in two back-to-back Netflix films–Pagglait and Ludo. Before that she was seen in Amazon Prime Video's Shakuntala Devi, starring Vidya Balan in the title role. Abhimanyu Dassani, on the other hand, made his debut with director Vasan Bala's Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. He will also be seen in Nikamma, co-starring Shirley Setia and Shilpa Shetty.
