January 15 : Kiran Rao has kickstarted shooting for her second directorial last week in a town near Pune. Kiran had made her directorial debut with Dhobi Ghat over a decade ago. The film starred her ex-husband Aamir Khan. This time, the Laal Singh Chaddha actor has come on board as a producer.

According to reports in Mid-Day, Kiran’s second directorial is a comedy, which will be very different from Dhobi Ghat. Reportedly, the current film has been dubbed as a massy entertainer and Aamir agreed to come on board as producer after the script was narrated to him.

The untitled film is written by Biplab Goswami, while screenplay is by Sneha Desai. Composer Ram Sampath and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya will also be working on this project. The story revolves around three characters played by Sparsh Shrivastav of Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega fame, Pratibha Rant of Qurbaan Hua fame, and 15-year-old Nitanshi Goel.

Pratibha, who came from Himachal Pradesh to Mumbai to pursue her modelling and film career, has been seen in the popular TV serial Qurbaan Hua in the role of Chahat Baig. Reportedly, Kiran was impressed with the audition of both the girls, Pratibha Rant and Nitanshi Goel, and cast them. Even in her debut film Dhobi Ghat, Kiran had cast actors like Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra, long with Aamir Khan. This time, however, there is no role for Aamir in this film.

Sparsh Shrivastava, who is from Agra, shot to fame with the OTT series Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega followed by web film Collar Bomb. He had come to Mumbai as a contestant for a dance reality show Chak Dhoom Dhoom in 2010, which he had won. The 23-year-old told in an interview earlier that it took him over a decade to eventually get noticed. Sparsh will also start shooting for the second season of his hit series.

It is reported that the first schedule of the film will continue till January 20. The film will be shot at different towns in Maharashtra. Kiran plans to wrap up shooting of the film by April this year if everything goes well in this pandemic situation.
