May 13 : After conquering the box office and entering the 100 cr mark domestically, Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is doing wonders in the OTT space as well. The film is written and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Gangubai Kathiawadi was released in theatres on February 25 this year. It was the first big film to release in theatres post the third wave of the pandemic and proved to be successful in bringing the audiences in the cinema halls. The film received immense love, praise, and appreciation from fans for its powerful storyline and incredible performances.

Gangubai Kathiawadi premiered on Netflix on April 26, 2022. Within a week, the female-oriented film became No. 1 non-English film on Netflix globally. The streaming giant has revealed some figures, according to which, in the first week, the film featured in the Top 10 Films in 25 countries across the world, including Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and UAE. In its second week on Netflix, the film continued to be in the top three with 8.3 million viewing hours. In just 13 days, Gangubai Kathiawadi garnered 22.1 million viewing hrs.

Gangubai Kathiawadi had grossed ₹108.3 crore worldwide in its first week. The film chronicles the journey of a girl, who was forced into sex trade, and how she transformed into a powerful figure in Mumbai’s red light area Kamathipura. Set in the 1960s, the highly-anticipated film has been praised to the skies and beyond, particularly Alia’s performance. The film is based on a chapter from writer S Hussain Zaidi's book Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

Produced by Bhansali Productions and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film also stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh, Indira Tiwari, and Seema Bhargava among others.
