New Delhi, May 20 : In a bid to make the city's air cleaner before the Commonwealth Games, the Delhi government will launch a special drive Friday against polluting commercial and private vehicles using latest technology.
Delhi Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the enforcement wing of the state transport department will check pollution from erring vehicles, using remote sensing technology.
The technology would help check pollution levels without stopping vehicles.
Lovely said remote sensing technology is a world-class technology which measures pollution in petrol, diesel, compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas-run vehicles through ultra-violet and ultra-sonic rays.
A total of 30 mobile teams of the enforcement wing have been constituted for the special drive.
"During the checks, the mobile pollution control vehicles would also examine compressed natural gas (CNG) kits and related documents," Lovely said.
The enforcement teams would be equipped with global positioning systems to enable them challan erring vehicles on the spot, he said.
