JULY 10 : The seekers of truth, wisdom, knowledge, spirituality, and peace will celebrate Guru Purnima on July 16, 2019, by paying homage to their gurus and seeking blessings for success and happiness, and for showing him the path to the Parabrahma, the supreme one.
Guru Purnima is observed on the full moon (purnima) day of Ashadha Shukla. This day is also celebrated as Vyasa Purnima to commemorate the birth anniversary of Ved Vyasa, who wrote the Puranas and Mahabharata. Buddhists pay homage to Gautama Buddha as he gave his first sermon in Sarnath on this day. The Jains, on the other hand, remember Lord Mahavira, as he received his first follower, Gautam Swami, on this day.
This auspicious day is beneficial in many ways. Many people take diksha, the spiritual lesson, on this day. It is beneficial to start wearing spiritual products like rudraksha beads, gemstones, rings or bracelets on Guru Purnima. Buddhist monks start meditation and adopt spiritual practices from this day.
The planet Jupiter, which represents optimism, knowledge, and wisdom, is also considered as a guru, and thus, on Guru Purnima, people worship Jupiter. It is believed that Lord Dattatrey worshipped some animals and birds as his guru. So, on Guru Purnima, you should look for positive powers around you, and accept them as a blessing. You can even pay respect to your school teacher or mentor.
