Thiruvananthapuram, August 24 : SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has rejected out of hand Kerala unit BJP chief P S Sreedharan Pillai’s statement the other day that he suspected a CPI(M) conspiracy behind the arrest of NDA convenor and Natesan’s son Thushar Vellappally’s arrest over a check bounce case in Ajman, UAE.
Brushing aside the BJP chief’s charge, Natesan told reporters on Saturday that Mr. Pillai was trying to fish in troubled waters.
Thushar himself had made it clear there was no conspiracy behind his arrest. Then why was Sreedharan Pillai levelling allegations against the CPI(M). The BJP chief should have adopted a more decent and judicious stand over the issue, Mr. Natesan said, adding that even minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan had enquired about the case and intervened on behalf of Thushar.
The SNDP Yogam general secretary also took a swipe at Sreedharan Pillai, saying sardonically that the latter might be a senior advocate but lacked a brain.
Thushar Vellappally was arrested the other day in the UAE over a dishonoured cheque. Sreedharan Pillai had alleged a CPI(M) conspiracy and political vendetta saying that the complainant in the case was a communist sympathiser.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had drawn flak the other day for intervening to ensure the release of Thushar. A prominent businessman based in the Middle East had paid a sizeable amount of sum as surety to secure Thushar’s release from jail at the instance of the chief minister.
The opposition UDF had slammed Pinarayi Vijayan asking why he had gone out of his way to help out the NDA convenor. Congress Kerala unit chief Mullappally Ramachandran had cited the alacrity with which the chief minister intervened in the issue as proof a holy nexus between the CPI(M)-led LDF and the BJP-led NDA.
