October 15 : Karva Chauth 2019 is a very sacred Hindu festival that is observed by married women for the healthy and long lives of their husbands. This year, it falls on October 17, 2019. According to the Hindu calendar, this auspicious falls during the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the Kartik month.

This is a very traditional ritual that has been observed for years where women fast from early dawn to dusk, offer puja and prayers to pray for their partner’s longevity, prosperity, and safe life. As per the Amanta calendar, the rituals are followed in the month of Ashwin, whereas in North India it falls in the Kartik month as per the Purnimanta calendar. However, both North and South India celebrate the festival on the same day.

Karwa Chauth is also called Karak Chaturthi. This festival coincides with the festival of Sankashti Chaturthi – a day that is dedicated to worship Lord Ganesha. For Karwa Chauth, married women offer prayers to Lord Shiva. They wake up early morning and consume a meal named sargi that is traditionally prepared by their mother in law. As per the rituals, this is the way the mother in law blesses her daughter and helps her to complete the vrat successfully.
