November 18 : We are always inspired by the Bollywood celebs. Not only do they ignite our emotions with their on-screen acting skills, but some also inspire us with their off-screen lives. But how many of us are connected with their problems, particularly their health problems? Cancer has been a major battle which was fought by many Bollywood celebs. While some have succumbed to the disease, many others have come out victorious surviving the disease. We have been inspired by such brave hearts. Here are some Bollywood personalities, who have carried the baggage of cancer and survived it.
Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and underwent treatment for over a year in New York. After undergoing bone marrow transplant, the veteran actor has been able to fight it courageously and is on the path to healing. In an interview, Rishi Kapoor said that cancer is a dreaded disease but thankfully now it its treatable. People who get the disease have to be positive.
At the age of 42, Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After treatment in New York, which included several surgeries and chemotherapies, the actor survived it, and is now declared cancer-free. After she became victorious in the battle, she was seen in the movie Sanju, where she played Nargis Dutt’s character.
Actor and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the throat, a type of throat cancer. He underwent surgery, followed by chemotherapy. The director fought cancer and survived it. He is now on the road to recovery.
Sonali Bendre fought metastatic cancer and came out victorious. After she went through treatment in New York for a year, the actress is cancer-free now and has returned to India. She is currently celebrating life with her family.
Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with high-grade neuroendocrine cancer, which is a rare type of cancer. Since there is less information on this type of cancer, the actor had to go through a lot of trial-and-error treatments. Irrfan will soon resume work after undergoing treatment in London.
Bollywood director Anurag Basu
Director Anurag Basu was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic Leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Despite the doctors predicting just two months for him, Basu fought the dreaded disease and conquered it like a hero.
Lisa Ray struggled with multiple Myeloma, a type of blood cancer, and came out victorious. She had a full stem cell replacement and is currently cancer-free. The Indian-Canadian actor said this type of cancer is treatable but not curable.
