Significance of Pongal 2020
On the day of Pongal, people pray to Lord Surya. This is why the festival is also called Surya Pongal. After cleaning the homes, people prepare a sweet rice dish called Sweet Pongal. This is a delectable traditional sweet made rice, jaggery, lentils, and milk. People believe that the rice and jaggery mix should boil and spill over the pot, as that indicated prosperity and happiness. People decorate their home entrance with kolam designs . After Pongal, people celebrate the Day 3 as Mattu Pongal and Day 4 as Kanya Pongal.
