TEL AVIV, May 8, 2014 - Photo: (Xinhua) -- Mango, a 19-year-old Syrian brown bear, rests on a bed as zoo veterinarians and staff prepare it for a surgery in the Ramat Gan Zoological Center's Wildlife Hospital near Tel Aviv, Israel, on May 7, 2014. The 250 kg Syrian brown bear underwent a nine-hour surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back after it was discovered in an x-ray. It took the participation of no less than 36 people for the surgery, 25 safari care takers carrying Mango, eight assisting in the operation and three veterinarians operating on it. The operation was unprecedented on such a big animal, as it was usually conducted on humans and smaller animals, according to Dr. Merav Shamir, the veterinarian who conducted the operation
