BERLIN, Dec. 7, 2013 - A staff member from Berlins St. Joseph hospital puts a letter on behalf of the hospital to the parents of abandoned babies in a baby hatch outside the hospital in Berlin, Germany, on Dec. 6, 2013. A baby hatch is a place where people can bring babies, usually newborn ones, and leave them there anonymously to be found and cared for. In Germany, babies are first looked after for eight weeks during which mothers can return and claim their children. If this does not happen, the children are put up for adoption after the eight weeks.
