The original name of the bridge is "Glebe Island Bridge". In 1998, Australia's New South Wales government renamed the bridge as the Anzac (abbreviation of The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) Bridge as a memorial to Australian and New Zealand soldiers who died in the Gallipoli Battle.
